Spirit Airlines Pet Policy

Spirit Airlines is a low-cost carrier that offers both domestic and international flights. Spirit Airlines Pet Policy allows customers to bring small dogs and cats on board with them in the cabin, as well as some other types of animals.

The cost for shipping your pet is $100 per flight segment, but there are some restrictions. You can’t transport a dog or cat if it weighs more than 100 pounds. You also can’t fly with a pet if it’s going to cause any issues for other passengers due to its size and behavior.

In addition to these restrictions, you must make sure that your pet has all its vaccinations and paperwork up-to-date before you come to the airport.

The following animals are not allowed on Spirit Airlines flights:

  • Any animal that is not fully vaccinated against rabies
  • Any animal that is younger than 8 weeks old
  • Any animal that has not been spayed or neutered
  • Any animal that is less than 4 months old and more than 8 pounds (not including food)

Spirit Airlines Pet Policy

Spirit Airlines is the only major U.S. airline to allow pets in the cabin on most flights. However, Spirit has some of the strictest pet policies in the industry. The carrier allows passengers to bring small dogs and cats (up to 20 pounds) in the cabin for a fee of $100 each way, but there are a number of restrictions.

Pets must be at least 8 weeks old and fully vaccinated against rabies at least 15 days prior to travel; they must be weaned from their mother and have proof of spaying or neutering (if applicable); they must stay in an approved kennel during flight; and they must remain inside the kennel at all times (except when being held by a passenger).

The following types of animals are not allowed on Spirit Airlines flights: snakes, reptiles, insects, ferrets or rodents; farm poultry including chickens, ducks and geese; non-household birds; and animals with tusks (except for service animals).

To make sure you’re able to bring your pet on board, we require the following:

  • An approved carrier for the size of your animal. This can be any carrier that is a hard-sided case made of plastic or metal but cannot be soft-sided or made of fabric. The case must have a door that can be opened from the top and a leash attached to the top of the carrier.
  • Proof of vaccination against rabies and distemper. This can be in the form of a certificate or vaccination tag on their collar, which must be visible at all times during flight. If your pet’s vaccinations are not up-to-date or if they need additional vaccinations before flying, we recommend that you visit your veterinarian or local animal shelter for advice.
  • A health certificate issued within 10 days of travel by a licensed veterinarian stating that your pet is healthy and fit to fly, signed with an official stamp or seal on letterhead paper (not plain paper).

For traveling with your pet on Spirit Airlines, you should know:

  • Your pet must be at least 8 weeks old and fully weaned.
  • Your pet must be in good health and have all necessary vaccinations.
  • You can bring up to 2 pets, each weighing up to 80 pounds and not exceeding 24 inches in height or 36 inches in length.
  • You can only bring up to 5 birds per flight, regardless of weight. Birds must be in a carrier that can fit under the seat in front of you, and they must also remain inside their carriers throughout the flight (they cannot be removed).

Spirit Airlines Fees for flying with pets

The pet fee for Spirit Airlines is $110 per carrier, and you can only have two animals per passenger.

To fly with your pet, you must purchase an approved carrier and follow the instructions for putting your pet in the carrier. It must fit under the seat. The dimensions of the carrier must be 18x14x9 inches. You can take two pets in the carrier.

Pet travel can be stressful, but with Spirit Airlines, you won’t have to worry about your pet. The flexible schedule and low pet fee will make getting a flight with your pet easy.

NOTE: Remember to keep in mind that your pet will be considered a “plus one” piece of carry-on luggage on Spirit Airlines.

Types of pets allowed on Spirit Airlines flights

While many airlines allow certain types of animals, Spirit is one of the few airlines that does not. Pets are not allowed in checked baggage or the aircraft’s cargo area.

However, if you have a service animal, you can check your pet’s paperwork online or by phone. Upon arrival at your destination, you will receive a confirmation receipt by email that will list your pet’s name and type.

The airline will not allow animals that have been exposed to rabies, and the airline will also remove any animal that is offensive to others.

Those odorless, inoffensive, or ill animals will not be allowed to travel. In addition to cats and dogs, Spirit Airlines also allows small domesticated animals such as birds, rabbits, and fish. It is not recommended to bring an exotic pet to travel on Spirit Airlines flights.

Those bringing a pet on a flight should know that pets are not permitted on emergency exit rows or in the first row of seating.

Spirit Airlines allows customers to bring some types of pets on board their flights. The following are the types of pets allowed:

Dogs and cats that weigh 8 pounds or less are allowed in the cabin. Customers may also check in their pet for a fee.

Fish, worms, snails, and insects must be in a container that is leak-proof and completely closed. The container must be small enough to fit under the seat in front of you or within your carry-on bag.

Birds must be able to sit on your lap during the flight and can’t weigh more than 25 pounds.

The only types of pets that are not allowed on Spirit Airlines flights are birds and snakes.

Here are the types of pets allowed on Spirit Airlines flights:

  • Dogs and cats
  • Ferrets
  • Rabbits
  • Guinea pigs (under 6lbs)
  • Hamsters (under 2lbs)

Spirit Airlines Pet Reservations

Before booking your next flight with Spirit Airlines, you should know their pet policy. You can contact Spirit Pet Reservations center to make a reservation for your pet. It is also possible to call or chat with a customer representative.

Remember to pay a fee of $110 per container, and your pet counts as a carry-on item.

If you have a service animal or a certified assistance dog, Spirit Airlines is happy to accept them. The airline will provide you with a form that you can complete at the airport on the day of travel.

If the airline cannot accommodate your pet, you can switch flights and wait until another flight is available. Once you complete the form, you will be able to take your pet with you on any Spirit Airlines flight.

If you don’t have time to fill out the form in advance, you can always pick it up at the airport counter the day before departure.

NOTE: If your dog isn’t a service animal, you’ll be able to rebook the next available flight for free.

Spirit Airlines Pet in the Cabin

Whether traveling for business or pleasure, you can bring your pet on Spirit Airlines. You must purchase a special ticket for your companion and give them at least 48 hours’ notice.

If you’re flying domestically, you must check in at the ticket desk two hours prior to the flight. You should also complete a checklist and bring a health certificate for your pet. It would help if you also kept in mind that your companion must be at least eight weeks old.

You can only bring one animal per passenger, and it’s best to choose a smaller carrier that doesn’t weigh more than 18kg.

You can also bring more than one animal, as long as they are of the same species. There is no limit to the number of carriers you can bring, but you’ll have to pay for each.

When traveling on Spirit Airlines, it’s important to note that the airline allows a small dog or cat in the cabin, but restrictions are. The carrier only allows dogs and cats in their cabins. You can also bring a cat or a rabbit.

You’ll have to check availability with the airline ahead of time.

Pets are allowed to travel in the cabin of Spirit Airlines flights as long as they meet certain requirements. Some of these requirements include:

Pets are allowed to travel in the cabin of Spirit Airlines flights as long as they meet certain requirements. Some of these requirements include:

The pet must be in a carrier or kennel that can fit under an airline seat and cannot exceed 17″ x 13″ x 8″ when fully expanded (width + length + height).

Pets must be at least 8 weeks old and have all current vaccinations.

The animal must remain inside its container at all times while on board the aircraft (including takeoffs, landings, and taxiing).

The following pets are allowed in the cabin:

  • Small dogs (dogs under 20 pounds)
  • Small cats (cats under 8 pounds)
  • Ferrets
  • Pocket pets (hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, and rats)
  • Fish in an aquarium that fits under the seat in front of you

NOTE: Remember that you can only bring one pet on the airplane at a time.

Spirit Airlines Pets in Checked Baggage

Spirit Airlines allows passengers to transport pets in the cabin, or check them as baggage in the cargo hold if they meet certain requirements.

Pets must be at least 8 weeks old and weigh under 20 pounds. They also must be healthy, properly vaccinated and microchipped, and have an appropriate travel carrier. The carrier should be big enough for the pet to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably inside with room for food and water bowls. Spirit Airlines will not accept any container that does not meet those specifications.

Pets can travel in the cabin if they are in a carrier that fits under the seat area of your aircraft seat. You’ll need to purchase a seat for your pet on Spirit Airlines flights. The pet must remain inside its carrier throughout the flight unless it’s a service animal assisting someone with a disability or emotional support animal helping someone who has anxiety or depression issues related to their disability or medical condition (in which case you may let them out).

Spirit Airlines Pets Guidelines & Restrictions

Spirit Airlines is one of the most affordable airlines to fly with your pet. However, they do have some restrictions on the types of pets they allow on board their flights. Here are some of the guidelines and restrictions for bringing your pet along on Spirit Airlines’ flights.

Age Restriction: The age restriction for cats and dogs is 8 weeks or older. Puppies and kittens that are younger than 8 weeks old must travel in an approved container or kennel in the cabin (not checked).

They also do not accept rodents such as hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, and rats or birds (which includes all species of poultry).

In order to protect our crewmembers from exposure to these animals, Spirit Airlines will decline any shipment containing them even if they are traveling in a properly labeled, temperature-controlled kennel or container.
