Your website is the door into your world. It’s your resume to people that love your music and also to new people who have never seen or heard your music before. You need ways to drive people to your site and this article has 10 easy steps. A lot of them are no brainers, but some people never think of these.
It’s easy for a musician to get caught up in the cyber world and forget that there is a real world with real people out there. But we as musicians have to remember that marketing the music is important as making great music. I believe that making great music is the #1 goal of all musicians, but if you want to get more fans then you have to make a name for yourself and driving people to your site is a great way to do that.
QR codes… ever here of them? A QR code is a type of matrix barcode (2-dimensional code). The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on Pop Smoke Merch a white background. The QR code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes. People scan these QR codes with their mobile phones and they get directed to the attached url from their mobile device! They’re popping up everywhere and it’s a great way to drive traffic to your site and the best part…they’re free! Just Google “Create QR Code” and click on any of the first few sites that come up.
1. Give away an “exclusive” single for free to people who visit your website for just 1 night only. Calling the single an “exclusive” give away right away indicates that it will only be given away that night. Human nature is that if something has a limited time on something, people want it for some reason. Human nature’s crazy huh?
2. Have your website available for people to see. Place your website on stage, on your flyers, at your merch table, on your cds. Place it on your kick drum or maybe on your guitar (I wouldn’t advice using a sticker). I’ve heard of bands on late night shows using a giant QR code on their equipment or wherever it’s visible so the audience can put their phone up to the TV and scan the code.)
3. When you make your domain name, make it easy to remember, spell and remember. Some musicians just make it way to tough to remember a url. If you have an artist name that is hard to remember or spell, buy an easy to remember domain. It will make it easier for new fans and old fans to remember your site.
4. Start to carry business cards with you. On the card make sure you have your website, name, contact info and might I suggest a QR code. It looks much more professional if you have business cards and also shows how serious your are as a musician if you have them.
5. Get a logo or your band name (with a url somewhere on graphic) and label matchbooks, lighters, stickers, and buttons. Make sure that website is on the “nik-nak”. Even though it’s illegal to smoke inside bars, people are still smoking and they love have cigarette lighters, matchbooks around. People love sticks too. They put them on laptops and guitar cases. But again, make sure that website is on it.
6. Put your website and QR codes on posters. If people are interested, they’ll scan the poster. Even offer a free song for visiting the site if they scan it from the qr code. Some people will scan it just to see it work on their phone.
7. Take a tone of pictures of your audience. Or even have your audience take a ton of pictures of the show and to tag you on Facebook or tell them to look for Pop Smoke Hoodie your website and they’ll find their pictures on your page.
8. Start a contest or giveaway. Give away a free cd or t-shirt. Free lighters…stickers…etc.. People love free stuff. Give them what they want. They just have to go to your website to submit the entry form.
9. Get your audience involved. People want to be part of something special. It’s great when the audience can really get involved at a show. Record or videotape your audience at the show. Tell them you’ll post the video on the site and it’s available for a download.
10. More website promotion. Again, place your website everywhere! Put it on your CD, the inside of your CD, posters, t-shirts, stickers.etc… You can also include a QR code that takes people to your site.
