- The CAT Committee has removed the minimum percentage criteria (45% and 50% [or equivalent CGPA] for Gen. and reserved categories, respectively) from CAT eligibility norms.
- Candidates with professional degrees, including CA/CS/ICWA, can apply for CAT 2022.
- If the University awards grades or CGPA instead of marks, the university’s conversion factor must be used. Suppose the University specifies no conversion factor. - Quantitative Ability (QA) – 22 questions
- Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)- 20 questions
- Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) – 24 questions.
The time duration has been increased to 120 minutes. All questions will not be multiple choice (MCQ) types. There will be some non-MCQs which you will have to type out on the screen.
However, no tutorial will be provided before the start of the test, and candidates are advised to go through the tutorials carefully from the official website, which will be available by 18 Oct 2017. Apart from a high score in each of the 3 sections, a good academic profile with diversity and work experience will have a higher chance of admission to IIMs.
Marks Calculation
- Each University or Institute follows its pattern of assigning marks. Therefore the percentage calculation is based on that.
- If the university has no method to convert marks/ CGPA to percentages, it is done through direct conversion. The candidate should divide the achieved CGPA by the highest CGPA possible and multiply the result by 100.
- If grades or CGPA are allotted instead of marks, the conversion method provided by the university has to be used to convert the marks to percentages.
Experience
- Candidates appearing for the CAT entrance exam do not require prior work experience.
- The work experience section in the application form is not a prerequisite.
- Work experience has some weightage in the later stages of the admission process in IIMs. However, within the CAT exam, having any experience will not affect the scores or eligibility.
