Many people believe that hair care is only about shampooing and conditioning, but there is much more to it than that. In order to maintain healthy hair, it is important to cleanse the scalp and hair regularly, using products that are suited to your individual hair type. 

In addition, regular trims are important in order to prevent split ends and keep your hair looking its best. Another important aspect of hair care is nail care. Keeping your nails trimmed and polished can help to prevent damage to the delicate nail bed and cuticles. By taking good care of your hair and nails, you can help to ensure that you always look your best.

How Can You Check Your Hair Type?

Knowing the texture, density and the level of oiliness in your hair can help you zero in on particular hair care and styling products for your tresses.

Then, take a tissue and gently press on the top of your head, if you notice oil on the tissue, this means you have oily hair. Most people know their hair type (straight, curly, etc.), but few know how to properly care for their hair based on its type. In order to have healthy and manageable hair, it is important to understand what products and treatments work best for your hair type. Here is a quick guide to help you determine your hair type and how to care for it: 

If you have straight hair, you are lucky! Straight hair is the easiest type to care for since it doesn’t require much styling. Just make sure to use a mild shampoo and conditioner to avoid damaging your hair. You can pick Kevin Murphy shampoo. You should also get regular trims to prevent split ends.

If you have curly hair, you will need to put in a little more effort to keep your locks looking shiny and healthy. Start by using a curl-enhancing shampoo and conditioner. When drying your hair, use a diffuser attachment on your blow dryer or let your hair air dry. To style, use a light gel or mousse and scrunch your hair with your hands. Be sure not to brush your hair when it is wet, as this will cause Frizzing.

If you have frizzy hair, the key is to moisturize! Use a deep conditioner at least once a week and look for products that contain natural oils like jojoba or argan oil. When styling, avoid using heat tools as they will only aggravate your frizz. Instead, allow your hair to air dry or use a diffuser attachment on your blow dryer. You can also smooth down flyaways with a little bit of serum applied with your hands.

 

Hair oiling

Oiling is certainly a basic component of your hair care routine. But too much of it can backfire on you . Oil can penetrate the hair shaft thereby delivering hydration and preventing hair damage. But a word of caution: Some products such as coconut oil have occlusive properties and can lock in moisture if left on for too long and can cause further breakouts. It can also trigger allergic reactions in those with sensitive skin.

A hot oil massage, if done in a proper way, can do wonders. A warm oil massage is said to be more beneficial than a cold oil massage as the heat can facilitate blood circulation, thereby boosting nutrient supply to hair follicles. Hair also absorbs oil better when it is warmer. Do not overheat as it can destroy the nutrients.

 

Foods for hair growth

You can have the best hair care routine, but if your diet does not contain the foods that are essential for your hair health, it will not make a difference. If you want to know more about the best foods for hair growth, consult a dietitian first and then opt for a diet that contains eggs (protein and biotin), leafy vegetables (iron), nuts and seeds (Omega 3 fatty acids), avocado (Vitamin E) and whole grains and meat (Vitamin B).

 

How should I dry my hair?

Properly drying your hair is also a part of your hair care routine. That will save you from getting disturbing tangles. After washing your hair, you should try to dry it with a towel very gently. Don’t be in a rush and don’t apply force. Use a micro-fibre towel—experts are unanimous in their opinion that such a fabric will do the least damage to your hair. Ideally, you should let your hair dry by itself, naturally.

Good hair care is a lifelong commitment, and your hair never stops growing. That’s why it’s important to take care of your tresses and keep them healthy for as long as possible.
