The Singapore Employment Pass (EP) is a type of Singapore work pass / visa granted by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to foreigners (professionals, managers, executives or directors), who wish to work legally in Singapore. This is the most versatile work pass that covers the biggest group of current foreign working professionals in Singapore (aside from work permit holders). Additionally, no work pass quota is required for this type of work pass but there are other new requirements implemented recently to ensure the fair consideration of locals before the hiring of foreigners on Employment Pass.
Personalised Employment Pass (PEP)
A PEP holder is allowed to stay in Singapore for up to six months between jobs in order to look for another position. Unlike the Employment Pass (EP), which is assigned to a specific workplace, the Personalised Employment Pass is not related to any employer. When the holder of an EP transfers to a new employer, a fresh application must be submitted, or the worker must leave Singapore. The PEP is only valid for three years and cannot be renewed; it can only be given to another foreigner once.
The dependant privileges of the original EP type are retained by a PEP bearer. The $144,000 yearly fixed salary threshold is mandatory and will apply for the whole three-year period.
Eligibility
Foreigners who qualify for the PEP include:
P1 Pass holders who receive a fixed monthly salary of at least $12,000 overseas international professionals whose last drawn fixed monthly pay overseas was at least $18,000
How to Get Started
The MOM accepts applications both online and in person:
PEP Short-Term Employment Pass (online) (STEP)
The Short-Term Employment Pass allows foreigners to work in Singapore for a maximum of one month on a specific project. The STEP is a non-renewable, one-time permission.
How to Get Started
Online applications to the MOM are available. The procedure is similar to that of an EP application, with the exception that the application must be accompanied by a letter from a local enterprise justifying the need for the application. The letter must also state that no STEP permission extension will be sought.
EntrePass is a programme that allows you to get (Employment Pass for Entrepreneurs)
The EntrePass is a work permit for overseas entrepreneurs that want to set up shop in Singapore.
The MOM Eligibility Center has information on the EntrePass.
Foreign entrepreneurs can apply for an EntrePass if they plan to start and operate a business in Singapore. The company must be truly entrepreneurial in character (not a coffee shop, massage parlour, or tutoring service, for example…), and it must not have been registered with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) for more than six months.
Additional requirements:
The ACRA, Singapore’s national regulator of enterprises and public accountants, requires that the company be established as a Private Limited Company.
Applicant must own at least 30% of the firm’s stock and the company must have at least $50,000 in paid-up capital. For verification, a bank statement of at least $50,000 from the Singapore-based company’s bank account is necessary.
How to Get Started
A complete business plan is required with all initial applications (not more than ten pages). Renewals after then must provide evidence of a track record, as well as trading and financial position. Apply to the MOM with the necessary papers via SingPost (a MOM-appointed Collecting Agent):
If there is no local sponsor, an EntrePass application form must be completed and supported by a banker’s guarantee of S$3,000.
a copy of the applicant’s previous work references (translated into English)
If the company is registered with ACRA, a copy of the most recent Business Profile/Instant Information.
Passport-sized photo taken recently
a copy of the applicant’s passport with personal information
Each application has an administrative charge, and approval can take up to four weeks.
Upon receipt of approval
The entrepreneur will receive an In-Principle Approval Letter, which will allow them to register their business with ACRA. After completing the ACRA registration, the applicant must send a copy of the Business Profile/Instant Information as well as the Approval-in-Principle letter to the Work Pass Division in order for the EntrePass to be issued.
The first Entrepass is good for two years, and subsequent renewals are good for three years.
The entrepreneur must notify the Work Permit Division if the nature of the business changes during the validity of the pass.
Any mid-level skilled employees, such as technologists, who wish to work in Singapore can apply for a S Pass.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet certain criteria, such as pay and qualifications, just as they must for Employment Passes, but they are not required to have a degree. S Pass applicants will be scored using a points system that considers a variety of characteristics such as salary, education, skills, job type, and work experience.
