What is certificate 3 in Aged care?

Certificate 3 aged care Adelaide is a certified training designed to provide the experience and skills required to assist vulnerable elderly people who are isolated or disabled in residential aged care facilities, community care, or nursing homes.

What is Certificate 4 in Aged care?

Certificate IV in aged care Adelaide is a certified training course in elderly and aging care which is recognized by the Australian Government. The course entails a maximum of 18 months (it can vary in every institute) of training for interested individuals, in the field of medical care and social service.

  • With the ongoing pandemic, physical learning has taken a backseat in order to maintain safety protocols hence, premier aged care training Adelaide institutes have been providing for online training courses.
  • The course helps provide the basics of aged training and all the skills required to provide the best care and service in aged care facilities and nursing homes.
  • As the government is committed to keeping the elderly at home, there is an increasing demand for employees in this sector thus providing you with many career opportunities.

As a result, many Australians are seeking careers in the high-demanding and dynamic medical industry today, but there has been some uncertainty about what qualifications are required, especially for aged care courses. Here is a guide to the two certified courses provided in aged training which will help you choose your best fit.

Course details:

One of the most common nationally accredited aged care courses among employers is the Certificate III in Aged Care, which was formerly the compulsory certification needed to work in an aged care facility.

In 2015, this training course was overridden by the most recent aged care course, the Certificate III in Individual Support.

The Certificate IV in Ageing Support is a step up from all Certificate III courses in terms of aged care certification. In 2015, two Certificate IV courses, the Certificate IV in Aged Care and the Certificate IV in Home and Community Care, were superseded by this course.

The certificate 4 training helps individuals benefit from a supportive atmosphere in this training course where they would learn and improve, as well as be exposed to unique opportunities to develop physical, mental, and emotional skills related to the social service sector.

Requirements to enrol:

There are no compulsory and strict education qualifications required to enroll for the training, individuals have to be 18 years and above and have the basic LLN skills- language, literacy, and numeracy that enables you to read and comprehend technical terms while also communicating effectively through email, as well as to have basic Computer-related skills. However, for enrolling in a certificate 3 aged care Adelaide courses the age is reduced to 17 years and anyone can apply while the training and other requirements remain the same.

Course overview:

Unlike Certificate 3 which provides for 14 total course units (ten core and 4 electives), certificate 4 is spread over twelve modules each having an average of two units, the individuals have to train for every unit in order to qualify for the course.

  • Module 1 entails three units that cover the training for the needs and requirements of the elderly, to provide support and health-related services.
  • Module 2 is to train to help a large number of people of all kinds and to help be empathetic and support individual freedom while catering to their needs.
  • Module 3 is a safety training unit for every individual.
  • Module 4 is to train to help support patients suffering from dementia.
  • Module 5 is to understand the basics of mental well-being and to help your patients with meditation
  • Module 6 is to help you understand situations and respond to any behavioural change and raise concerns in time.
  • Module 7 is to help you manage legal formalities and train you for risk assessment.
  • Module 8 is to understand your organization skills and how you can assist the family of the patient better with the development of their elderly loved ones.
  • Module 9 is to help you understand medications and how to handle them better.
  • Module 10 is to provide support not only physically but mentally, in bad times and good times.
  • Module 11 teaches you to help provide delivery care services using a palliative approach.
  • The last module is to help build contact and networks for your patients while facilitating their needs and providing the best services.

Career opportunities in both aged care training Adelaide courses:

If you enrol in the Certificate III course, here are some career opportunities for you:

  • Accommodation Support Worker
  • Disability Services Worker
  • Personal Care Giver
  • Respite Care Worker
  • Food Services Worker

Career options for Certificate 4:

  •  Aged Care Carer
  • Care Service Employee
  • Aged Care Worker
  • Care Team Leader
  • Client Care Advisor
  • Personal Care Assistant
  • Personal Care Worker

Both courses will prepare you to work as an aged care worker and will provide you with all the requisite skills, although they do vary in a few ways.

In the aged care sector, the Certificate III in Individual Support is the industry standard. It emphasizes person-centred care in the community and/or in a residential environment, regardless of the reason for the support.

Certificate IV, on the other hand, focuses on advanced skills and is designed for those who choose to work as a Team Leader in an aged care facility. This role entails specialized duties such as managing other care assistants in a senior, private, or community environment.

The Certified III aged care course will be better if you:

  • Have a rudimentary understanding of the aged care industry
  • Prefer to start working as an aged care worker or a community care coordinator right away.
  • If you are you looking for a course that is both shorter and less expensive?
  • Would like to specialize in aged care, disability care, or home and community care

The Cert IV aged care course may be better if you:

  • Are you interested in advancing your career in aged care as a Team Leader?
  • If you want to develop your skills
  • If you are interested in leading a group
  • If you’re looking for a course that encompasses both aged care and home and community care, look no further.

It is best to analyse all the sides to both the certifications before making any choice. Since it is about your career, gaining information would be essential before you enrol in a course.
